and what it isn't
No lawyer wrote this. I did, in plain English, because a page nobody can read protects nobody.
The scores are opinion
Every hell score on this site comes from readers rating software they say they have used. I average what comes in. I do not test these products, I do not run benchmarks, and I do not certify anything. A score is not a finding — it is roughly what a room full of users would tell you over a beer, which is useful and is not the same as evidence.
No score appears at all until a system has at least five ratings. Three annoyed people should not be able to condemn a product and one cheerful vendor employee should not be able to rescue one. Below five, the column shows a dash and says how many ratings it has.
If you are about to spend real money on a system, treat this site as a place to find better questions, not as a substitute for a trial and a reference call.
The facts are quoted, dated and sourced
Licence model, whether you can self-host, whether pricing is public, whether you can read the source, and who the vendor says the product is for — all of it is taken from each vendor's own public website and carries the date it was checked. Those columns are not opinion and they are not inferred. Where a vendor does not publish something, the entry says "unknown", because a vendor declining to publish a price is itself worth knowing.
If a fact here is wrong or has gone stale, tell me and I will fix it and say that I fixed it. Corrections from vendors get exactly the same treatment as corrections from users.
Confessions are other people's words
The confession wall is reader-submitted. Nothing appears until a person reads it. I trim for length and take out anything that names an individual employee, and I do not verify what people tell me. They are experiences, not findings, and they are published as the submitter's account rather than as mine.
If something published here concerns you and you think it is inaccurate, email me. That is a faster route to a fix than anything else, and I would rather be corrected than right.
I am not neutral about Odoo, and I make money from it
Superior Imprints runs on Odoo. It is the fourth system we have run since 2022 and the first one that let me build what my shop actually needed. I am openly enthusiastic about it and you should read everything I write about it with that in mind.
The "Try Odoo free" buttons on this site are affiliate links. If you start a subscription through one and become a paying customer, Odoo pays me a commission on your subscription for twelve months. It costs you nothing extra and I get no access to your account or your data. I chose Odoo a year before there was any commission attached to it.
Odoo is rated here on the same five criteria as everything else, by the same readers, and I cannot change its score. If it ends up rated badly, that is what the page will say. A ratings site that quietly protects its own sponsor is worth nothing, and I would rather have a site worth reading than a commission.

Still the same recommendation
Whatever you run, the thing that decides whether you are in hell in three years is whether you are allowed to change it. That is the whole argument, and it is the reason this site exists.
